Learning how to escape the trap

The Easy Peasy Way to Quit Porn
A book that guides the reader into seeing porn for what it really is — addictive poison — and then to conclude that escaping this trap is actually not hard, that there are many reasons to rejoice in not using porn and not a single reason to see it as an unpleasant experience. This book is an adaptation of Allen Carr's — The Easy Way to Stop Smoking, and although I find the first part not so well written, I am sure it is by far the best resource out there. It contains the most on point advice you can get, and that is why it's the first resource that I list. If you have already read it and are still struggling, you may want to check this.

Purity is Possible
Harvard cognitive-behaviorial psychiatrist Kevin Majeres' website. Accordingly to the website itself: The purpose of this website is to apply the wisdom and science of behavioral therapy to the challenge of overcoming addictive sexual behaviors. In the modules that follow, you will learn step-by-step how to gain mastery over cravings, anxiety, and distraction. You will be introduced to cutting-edge research in neuroscience, psychology, physiology, and medicine. And you will find, along the way, many reasons for hope. Wonderful content that will not only help with porn addiction but with many other aspects of life. It's also available in Portuguese and Spanish.
Understanding the harmulfulness of porn
I don't believe that reading about the terrible things that come with porn usage is, by itself, a good tool that one can use for escaping the porn trap. It's fear that keeps addicts using their drugs, so more fear will most certainly not help: that's why this section comes after the section about learning to escape porn addiction. The more you're struggling with porn addiction, the more I suggest you focus on the previous section. Nonetheless, it's a fact that porn harms everybody that is involved with it: performers and users, so if you still haven't convinced yourself of how bad porn can be, or if you have already decided to stop and want to rejoice on everything you will be "missing out", here are some web pages that may be of use:
-
Your Brain on Porn
This website is probably the most complete compendium of articles, scientific studies and even anectodes that illustrate the problems of porn usage. I couldn't possible summarize the content that exists there, but I can recommend both the Research and Sexual problems sections.
-
National Center on Sexual Exploitation
An institution that fights not only pornographers, but also pimps/sex traffickers, sex buyers and sexual exploitation profiteers in general. There is a website section that addresses pornography in particular, it contains a lot of useful information about porn harmfulness.
-
Archdiocese of Washington — Anti-Pornography Resources
A pdf similar to this web page, it lists many resources that provide useful information on the malignancy of porn. Most of the resources treat this question from a Catholic/Christian point-of-view, altough there are also a "Secular Websites" section at the end. I haven't read any of the stuff listed there, but I am sure that there are probably a lot of useful tools for Catholics or Christians in general.
